And now you know (if you didn't already)

So I had another hilarious and completely unrealistic celebrity dream last night (no, not the Jonas Brothers). This time it was a "Miss" Janet Jackson on the phone asking me to be in one of her new music videos--to be filmed at a beach location, specifically.
I was very flattered by the call, and really wanted to be in the video, but felt that I needed to confess to Miss Jackson, "I don't think I'd feel comfortable wearing a swimsuit on camera...I'm pregnant you see, and I swear that I'm already showing!" She was very understanding and assured me that I wouldn't be asked to wear anything that I wasn't comfortable with.

Morning dawns. I am laughing about my dream (and again the self-flattery). Then the wave of nausea hits as well as the truth: I will never be in a music video, and I am indeed pregnant.

So the cat's out of the bag. Baby Pete (#4) will join our family this spring.

There are several feelings associated with this pregnancy. First, of course we are happy and obviously I'm thinking pink. Admittedly, there is a little guilt over the fact that so many of my friends (and many of my favorite people in general) are struggling to conceive and it breaks my heart. There are also the normal emotions of feeling overwhelmed, overjoyed, and...plain old sick and tired (literally).

My pregnancies have all gone very much the same: Nausea, lots of vomiting, IVs at the ER to get hydrated, weeks spent in bed or on the couch at the mercy of my poor husband and friends and family that have been so kind as to bring me meals, clean my floors, take my kids for a few hours, etc. etc. Midway through each pregnancy, I've started feeling a bit more "normal" although I continue taking nausea medication during the entire duration of the pregnancy and have continued to vomit even days AFTER each baby is born. Now, I write by way of history. I know that many women have it WAY worse, and I truly do feel blessed to be able to have healthy babies.

Because my current sense of smell is magnetized by about 100% , it makes tasks such as changing diapers, sorting and changing laundry, opening the refrigerator, cooking, and doing dirty dishes very challenging. Well, yesterday as I lounged on my couch looking at my messy, stinky kitchen, I had an epiphany! I went upstairs and found the nose plug that has been sitting in a jewelry box for the past eight years (I bought this to do a spoof on synchronized swimming for a work thing during the Sydney Olympics).
(Sorry, no photo of me actually wearing the nose plug. Rest assured, it's a lovely image.)

So, I kept the little nose plug in my pocket all day, and pulled it out to use during all of the difficult and stinky moments of my day. I am happy to report that things went much better than usual! Yes, I think I've just found my new best friend.

How I WISH that the "As Is" photo you posted of yourself included the nose plug. That is a picture I'm sure I would have visited several times a day for a pick-me-up!

Seriously, I'm glad you found something to make things a little more tolerable. Desperate times call for desperate measures!

Congratulations! I'm so sorry you get to go through another round of pregnancy, but your kids are darn cute so I'm sure its worth it! And hurray for finding something that could make it all even a bit more tolerable.

Congratulations! That is so exciting! Too bad that the timing didn't work out for the music video.

Congratulations Tamsen! That is so exciting! I had a hard time with smells when I was pregnant, especially when I was at work in a stinky hospital. I found that putting a teeny tiny bit of peppermint extract in each nostril did the trick. Wierd, I know, but desperate times...It was a trick one of the older nurses taught me. We always have it on hand at work, just in case of a "CODE BROWN". Good luck with the nausea and I'll be thinking pink thoughts for you. Although, I think another little boy would be great too, with Rob that would make a whole basketball team. (Cory's dream.)

I'm with the Laundry Queen--I wanna see a picture with the nose plug (if you have synchronized swimming hair and makeup, too, all the better!).

And don't ever put anything IN your nose! I read not too long ago about the hazards of putting stuff (like Vaseline, Vicks Vapo-Rub etc.) in your nose--minuscule particles can end up in your lungs and make you very, very sick. So maybe you could put a little right under your nose?

I hope you keep feeling okay, and we're thinking our best pink thoughts!

woohoo!! I am equally excited for you as the others who have commented! I think the nose plug is a stupendous idea...I may have to invest in one for the next time around! I hope things go well (as well as possible while dealing with the sickness at least) We'd love to have any of your boys over for a play date so you can have a little break if you ever need it!!! YEAH!!!!

Ooooh I love the nose plug thing. I hope you and your new best friend do well together. I think it's been so recent I felt crummy I can totally remember and relate to your feelings. Early pregancy is the worst....but then again very thankful that the miracle is able to occur. Please call if it's a bad day and I can take the kids for a few hours.

I so so SO love your dreams! What a hoot! Maybe if I had dreams that cool, I would remember them too. Hee hee. Thinking of you. So sorry that you are already starting to feel sick.....but just because it is running its typical course, doesn't mean you can't still think pink....or blue....or green! You know you can call me whenever and I might just sneak over to grab those cute boys. Love ya, Tamsen! Take care!

Well, I am officially out of the baby-making mode and grateful at that. But don't count yourself out yet! I never could dance but I'm pretty sure I haven't withered away either! We may need to reprise the role of the Fairy YW's President and throw in some more "matural" moves for ya'!

I started reading this post and thought, "first off, Tamsen has fabulous dreams. Second, I think it's wonderfully cool of her to share her unusual dreams with us, I don't have the guts to share my crazy dreams (though yours wasn't that crazy, it was very entertaining)." And then I read that you are pregnant and I am SO excited for you! Yea! Congrats! And I'm glad that you have the nose plug. Hopefully it saves you from some added nausea and vomiting. And who knows, maybe this time your body will get used to the process of being pregnant and will thus give you a bit of a break...I hope it will anyway. CONGRATS!!!!!
