Only a mother would write this
For at least a year now we've been trying to encourage Burke to read chapter books on his own. He is a very good reader, but has had a hard time with the transition of wanting to be read to and wanting to read on his own (don't worry, we still read to him plenty). I knew that as soon as he gave it an honest try he would fall in love with it and that is what has happened this month. We are now having to ask him to put his book down to eat dinner, tell him to "stop reading and go to sleep" and today when he came home from school he ran directly to his room to pick up with where he left off (with no interest in a snack even!)... This is really exciting to a "first time" mom (as I always am with whatever stage Burke is entering). This morning I came downstairs to find Rob and Burke silently eating breakfast while Rob was reading The Ensign and Burke was reading The Friend. I love it!

I'm so glad Burke has discovered the joy of reading by himself! Hopefully, unlike a certain cousin of his, he'll make sure to only read at school when it is time to do so. ; ) It is SO hard to put down a good book!
That is what I call a "good problem!" It seems not too long ago when we were at your house and you mentioned that this first started to click. Go Burke!
Thanks for letting Hewitt come and play today! They had so much fun. Let me steal your kids lots. My kids are happy and hopefully you can get some things done. Really! Love the cute pics from your trip. Fun! And exhausting! Not that you have time, but you so need to post your blanket story! So love it!
classic! i can't wait for this to happen with max! how fun for you guys to be in this stage! hope everything is going good this week!
That is so great that he has learned to love to read. Even though Whitney can read really well - she doesn't have a love for it. It is always a battle to get her to read now.
That is the cutest thing I have heard in a while. I can only imagine the look on your face when you saw them!
